Numbers 5:30-31
“The priest is to have her stand in the presence of GOD and go through this entire procedure with her. The husband will be cleared of wrong, but the woman will pay for her wrong.””
“…the husband must present his wife before the Lord, and the priest will apply this entire ritual law to her. The husband will be innocent of any guilt in this matter, but his wife will be held accountable for her sin.”
Husband and wife stand in the presence of God in this judgement by ordeal. They are in the court of ultimate authority with no escape. God knows who did what. Interestingly the priest is to walk with the woman throughout. What a comfort for the wrongly accused! Sexual infidelity by either partner destroys children and families thus God’s commands against it. Strong families provide security and a framework for cultural development. He makes sure we notice the seriousness of infidelity.
